Bedford Cycle & Give: Winter Woof 

Welcome to Race Two of the Bedford Cycle & Give—a three-race mountain bike series blending trail fun, community giving, and friendly competition.

Up next: Winter Woof, happening Sunday, January 11, 2026 at 1:30 PM at Falling Creek Park in Bedford, VA.
This race supports Friends of the Bedford County Animal Shelter, helping provide food, care, and comfort to local cats and dogs.


Race Format

The Winter Woof uses the same handicap-style, 1-hour format:

  • Riders complete as many laps as possible in 60 minutes
  • If you finish a lap before the hour cutoff, you may begin another
  • Ties are decided by whichever rider finishes their final lap first
  • Expect fast laps, fun battles, and plenty of post-race tail-wagging energy

Entry Requirement: No Fee — Bring Pet Food

Instead of a registration fee, riders are asked to bring:

Purina Dog Food
Purina Cat Food

Dry or canned — all donations support Friends Bedford County Animal Shelter.


Race Categories – Choose the Right One

Junior Categories (Ages 9–17)

Jr. Girls (9–13) – 1 Lap Credit: Fun introduction for younger riders; balanced with lap credit.
Junior Boys (9–11) – 1 Lap Credit: Newer and younger riders; lap credit equalizes distance.
Junior Boys (12–13): Slightly older juniors with some riding or racing experience.
Jr. Girls (14–17): Teen riders seeking a good challenge at a steady pace.
Junior Boys (14–15): Fast, competitive teens with some racing background.
Junior Boys (16–17): Older juniors with strong speed and endurance.
Junior Girls Expert: The fastest junior girls; club or regional racing experience.
Junior Boys Expert: Top-tier junior boys; strong, fast, and technically skilled.

Women

Beginner Women (18+): Newer racers focusing on completing laps and having fun.
Masters Women (45+): Experienced women racers competing in an age-based category.
Sport Women: Regular riders who are competitive but not expert-level.
Expert Women: Fast, experienced racers—expect a strong pace throughout.

Men

Beginner Men: New to racing; goal is consistent laps and enjoyment.
Old, Fat, and Slow: The fun category—social, humorous, and a great challenge.
Sport Masters Men (45+): Competitive 45+ riders with solid fitness and skill.
Sport Men: Regular, competitive adult riders; expect strong pacing.
Expert 45+: Highly competitive, experienced riders age 45+.
Expert Men: The fastest adult racers; multiple fast laps expected.


General Notes

  • Handicap start times make racing competitive across categories
  • 1-lap credit applies only to youngest juniors (ages 9–13)
  • Extra lap rule: finish before 60 minutes ? you may start another
  • Tie-breaker: finishing order of the final lap
  • Select your category honestly to keep the racing fun and fair for everyone
